Miller's Rebel Yell, CGC, TDI, ThPA
Rebel was many things to many people. For Tony and I, he was our first Kuvasz and our "best boy". In addition to being called Rebel, he had several nicknames: "Bud" or "Buddy" because he was truly everyone's buddy. After a brief "stint" in the competition obedience ring in the early/mid 90's, it became quickly apparent that Rebel was far more interested in visiting with people than doing formal obedience. So we pursued Therapy dog work. Rebel was certified as a Therapy dog in 1997 and worked as a therapy dog for 7 years, bringing joy to all the many hundreds of lives he touched in nursing homes. He was always eager for his visits and truly enjoyed visiting everyone. Even as arthritis set in, he clearly still wanted to do therapy work and made his final visit to the nursing home just 2 months before he passed away.
In 2001, at the Kuvasz Club of America National Specialty in St. Louis, Rebel received the Service Award from the club for his outstanding service to the community (pictured).
He also taught Tony and I a lot about life. From early on in his puppyhood and throughout his life, Rebel suffered several health problems. Through all of them, and even when things seemed hopeless, he remained a real trooper and taught us what a big heart and a fighting spirit and zest for life were all about. To the very end, he gave 100% effort in everything that he did.
Rebel also raised several puppies as they were added to our family, and also was a great "foster Dad" to several rescued Kuvasz who fostered with us at different times.
Although Rebel was neutered at an early age and did not reproduce, our kennel name of Rebel Ridge is in his honor and he leaves us his legacy to honor that name for future generations.
Rebel left this world with grace and dignity. He will be missed by many.
